One dead as NPP chairman’s vehicle ‘explodes’

The Damongo New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Chairman, Aboagye Kwame last weekend narrowly escaped death after the vehicle in which he was traveling caught fire and exploded.

Aboagye Kwame who was traveling from Tamale back to Damongo after attending party meetings at the Regional Secretariat said he miraculously escaped the incident with five other occupants without any injuries.

He told MyNewsGh.com that on reaching between Ntereso and Damongo Junction, the Renault pick-up vehicle donated by Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor caught fire from the bucket and started producing fumes.

“I stopped and immediately we all got down and as if planned, the car exploded like a bomb. Thank God we got down in time before the explosion the story would have been different”, he revealed.

Asked if the vehicle had electrical problems, he said he was unable to tell but was shocked as to how the incident occurred.

Meanwhile, a biker according to the police in Damongo run into the burnt vehicle resulting in his instant death.

According to them, the burnt vehicle was parked on the shoulder of the road when the rider believed to have been speeding mistakenly veered off his lane and run into the stationary pick-up.

His body was taken to the Damongo Hospital mortuary for preservation but later handed over to his family for burial after preliminary police investigations.
