Blows over School Feeding

Tension is mounting in the Yilo-Krobo branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the removal of some party members from the School Feeding Programme as caterers.

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE indicates that the plan is allegedly being implemented by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) in collaboration with some constituency executives of the party in the constituency in the Eastern Region.

According to Gifty Azagba, a Polling Station Women’s Organizer for NPP, who is also a caterer, the MCE, Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor; Constituency Chairman, Dr. Gabriel Apotey; Women’s Organiser; Adelaide Asantewaa and Youth Organiser, George Teye Wayo, have allegedly teamed up to intimidate the current caterers of the School Feeding Programme in the municipality and are being asked to hand over their jobs.

She claimed the MCE cancelled the contracts awarded to them over claims that they did not vote for the current executives during the primary in the constituency.

She said as a result some aggrieved NPP members have therefore threatened to leave the party.

Ms. Azagba claimed the MCE and some constituency executives were bringing their own people as caterers but the old caterers have vowed to resist them.

“They even went to the extent of warning the headmaster of the school to sack me from the school or risk being transferred,” Ms. Azagba claimed.

Another affected caterer claimed at a certain point, the constituency executives ordered people to discard the food she prepared for pupils at Odortom M/A Primary School all in a bid to compel her to leave her post.

Esther Abayetey, who cooks for Pleki R/C Primary School, also alleged that after several unsuccessful attempts by the top hierarchy of the party to sack them from their various schools, they (NPP Executives) resorted to the removal of their names from the payrolls without their notice.

When DAILY GUIDE contacted the constituency chairman, Dr. Gabriel Apotey, he said that the matter had been resolved by the regional minister and declined to comment further.

The MCE, when contacted, promised to get in touch with the reporter but never did so at press time.
