Arrested Menzgold customers granted bail
The Asokore Mampong District Court has granted bail to six customers of now troubled gold-dealership firm, Menzgold after they were arrested by the police for flouting the public order law during a demonstration in Kumasi on Tuesday, 8 January 2019.
They have been granted bail to the tune of GHS5000 with a surety for each person.
They defied the orders of the police and went ahead to picket the Menzgold office at Kumasi Amakom.
The irate clients blocked the main Kumasi – Accra road and burnt car tyres to demand payment of their locked-up investments.
But their lawyer Kwame Owusu Sekyere argued that his clients had done no wrong and that they were only at the protest to check if their monies would be paid.
The court adjourned the case to January 22.
The aggrieved customers said the police intentionally decided to stop them from demonstrating, hence the decision to defy their orders. They are also calling on the government to intervene in the matter and assist in recovering their investments.
