Zoomlion Ghana Disassociates Itself from Galamsey Equipment Allegations

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has firmly denied any involvement in illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey, following reports that excavators and mining equipment bearing the “Zoomlion” brand are being used in such operations across the country.
In a public statement issued by its Communications Directorate, the company clarified that it neither owns nor authorizes the use of any machinery for mining purposes. Zoomlion Ghana emphasized that it is not affiliated with any form of galamsey and has never supported or engaged in illegal mining activities.
The company explained that the confusion stems from the fact that the equipment in question bears the name “Zoomlion” because it is produced by Zoomlion Heavy Industry Science & Technology Co., Ltd., a Chinese manufacturing firm. Despite the name similarity, the Chinese company is entirely separate and unaffiliated with Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
“Any use of such equipment in connection with illegal mining is without the knowledge, consent, or approval of Zoomlion Ghana Limited,” the statement read. “We strongly distance ourselves from any such activities and any individuals or entities claiming association with us in that regard.”
Zoomlion Ghana further urged the general public, stakeholders, and relevant authorities to disregard any misinformation linking the company to illegal mining operations. It called for vigilance against the unauthorized use of its brand name, which it says undermines its reputation as a reputable waste management and sanitation services provider in Ghana.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, legal compliance, and national development, stressing that it remains focused on its core mandate of providing environmental and sanitation services across the country.
“We wish to unequivocally state that Zoomlion Ghana Limited is not engaged in, does not support, and has never participated in any illegal mining activity, including galamsey,” the company reiterated.
Zoomlion Ghana concluded by encouraging the public and regulatory bodies to report any individuals or groups misrepresenting the company’s name or engaging in illegal acts under the guise of affiliation, assuring that the necessary legal steps will be taken against such imposters.
