AMA Selects 20 Youth-Led Projects Under Bloomberg Youth Climate Action Fund

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has announced the selection of 20 youth-led climate action initiatives as part of the second phase of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF). The initiative aims to empower young changemakers in Accra to tackle the local impacts of climate change through innovative, community-driven projects.
In a statement signed by Gilbert Ankrah, Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, the Assembly highlighted that the selected initiatives span key focus areas such as climate education, waste management, urban greening, sustainable transport, renewable energy, and environmental advocacy. Each project will be implemented over a six-month period.
“These projects reflect the creativity, passion, and commitment of young people in Accra who are stepping up to lead the charge against climate change,” the statement noted.

Among the selected projects are:

Global Impact, Local Solutions
The Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund is currently active in 100 cities across 38 countries and six continents. To date, it has supported over 1,000 projects, mobilized more than 100,000 young people, planted upwards of 118,000 trees, removed over 100,000 pounds of waste, and established nearly 2,800 gardens and 248 green spaces globally.
In Accra, the initiative is contributing to a broader strategy to involve youth in local climate governance and sustainability efforts.
AMA Commits to Youth Engagement and Climate Resilience
The AMA commended all 59 applicants who responded to the call for proposals and extended congratulations to the 20 selected teams.
“As implementation begins, the Assembly reiterates its commitment to amplifying youth voices in climate governance and fostering a resilient and sustainable Accra,” the statement concluded.
