Several impedimental roadblocks were placed in front of the moves to create the Oti Region together with the other five.
Groups upon groups in the southern part of the Volta Region were aghast over the decision to create the Oti Region out of the existing Volta Region.
Demonstrations were held, threats were issued, ethnocentric sentiments were heavily relied upon, but all to no avail.
There was a heavy swell of support for the creation of the regions including the Oti Region. The results of the referendum vindicate the calls for the regions to be created in those areas.
A Volta Youth group has issued a statement about its preparedness to hit the law courts to have the election held in the Oti enclave to be annulled because, according to them, the process was replete with irregularities.
Justice Williams Atuguba’s lesson on election results has eluded these guys. They better fish for his opinions on such cases and advise themselves accordingly.
If they had something to do, it had to be done long before the referendum was held. Perhaps their ‘NO’ campaign did not appeal to the fancy of the people of Oti.
These people should allow themselves to be filled with the fact that Oti is a region now, and the process cannot be reversed. Reality is yet to dawn on them that there’s absolutely nothing to be done to change this course of events.
