Suspect in KNUST student murder remanded for the second time

The 21-year-old final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), who is the main suspect in the death of 21-year-old Joana Deladem Yabane, has been remanded for the second time by a court.

The suspect, Daniel Tuffour, was arrested in connection with the death of Joana, whose lifeless body was discovered on campus on February 27, 2025.

During Daniel’s second court appearance at the Prempeh Assembly Hall District Court in Kumasi, the prosecutor handling the case informed the court that the case docket had been sent to the Attorney General’s (AG) office for advice and that his office is awaiting a response from the AG’s office.

As a result, the court adjourned the case and remanded the suspect for the second time, granting the prosecution’s request for the suspect to remain in custody while investigations continue.

The court is expected to reconvene on April 1, 2025, for the next hearing.

Background

The Ghana Police Service arrested Daniel Tuffour in connection with the death of a 21-year-old Level 400 Biological Science student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The suspect, Daniel Tuffour, was arrested following further crime scene investigations and is currently in custody, assisting with the investigation.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased, identified as Yabane Deladem Aku, was found unresponsive behind the Central Laboratory on campus in the early hours of today, 27th February 2025.

She was pronounced dead by medical authorities from KNUST Hospital who examined the body at the scene before it was conveyed to the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

A subsequent Police examination of the body revealed marks of violence.
