The items were discovered concealed in a warehouse in Sapeiman, a suburb of Accra, after National Security operatives acted on a tip-off.
During a special late-night operation, law enforcement officers uncovered 12 shipping containers (20ft each) filled with concealed items, although two containers remain unaccounted for and are currently being tracked.
Among the seized items were, bundles of fake US dollars, found hidden in wooden boxes covered with cement and charcoal, additional counterfeit currencies sealed in plywood-covered boxes, boxes of metals suspected to be gold bars, fake Ghana Army uniforms and boots.
Who is ‘Alhaji’?
Security officials have disclosed that the alleged ringleader, known only as “Alhaji,” is currently on the run along with three other suspects.
A nationwide manhunt has been launched to track down and arrest all those involved.
The revelation has sparked intense discussions on X (formerly Twitter), where Ghanaians are demanding Alhaji’s identity and questioning the origin and purpose of the concealed items.
Many critics are also skeptical of the authorities’ claims that the currencies are counterfeit, dismissing it as a cover-up.
They have raised concerns about the implications of such large sums of money being hoarded in the country, speculating about the possible involvement of high-ranking officials.
As of Monday, February 10, 2025, ‘Alhaji’ remains a trending topic, with many calling for transparency and accountability in the unfolding investigation.
Ghana is such a funny country. What do you mean the only name you have is ALHAJI.
Alhaji was able to rent those warehouses. Alhaji’s operation was secretly being watched but apparently nobody has a name, description. Nothing.
Is someone protecting the identity of Alhaji?

The whole country is looking for Alhaji. We don’t have a description. Just a name . This name however rented a warehouse that held a dozen containers of contraband. Hope we find Alhaji .

When Alhaji is eventually unmasked, and he will be, his story is going to be that the national security seized the money under the guise of them being fake, that they’re not fake. https://t.co/qU1CRX6Qo1
