2020 Polls: Mahama easiest to beat – Akomea
A former Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has stated that former President John Dramani Mahama is the weakest among all the flag bearer-aspirants of the biggest opposition party.
The Managing Director of Intercity STC is of the opinion that the other aspirants will present a tougher contest for the governing party but Mr Mahama’s past record makes him the least formidable.
“In real terms, President Mahama’s candidature presents the easiest option for the NPP… John Mahama will be easier to defeat than any of the other candidates,” he said on Saturday, 15 December 2018, on Joy TV’s Newsfile programme.
According to Mr Akomea, “Any other NDC presidential candidate can come and capitalise on the perceived omissions of the Akufo-Addo government, make all kinds of lofty claims and promises with no record of them to be referenced to.”
That, Mr Akomea noted, cannot be said of the former president, since “his record will be juxtaposed to anything he promises the Ghanaian electorate”.
So far, eight aspirants have officially picked forms to run for the presidential primary of the NDC scheduled for 26 January 2019.
They include former President John Mahama, Mr Goosie Tanoh, Mr Nurudeen Iddrisu, Mr Stephen Atubiga, Mr Alban Bagbin, Mr Ekow Spio-Garbrah, Mr Sylvester Mensah and Prof Joshua Alabi.
