Drone Deal Seal By Parliament

Parliament has approved the services agreement which paves the way for the delivery of medical supplies by drones in Ghana.

While this is welcoming and heartwarming news, opponents to the deal would likely intensify their antipathetic stance towards it.

Their arguments are hinged on some points they raise which include cost and what they term as a priority.

I must reiterate the point that human life is precious and can never be quantified in terms of money. Impliedly, as a country, we must, as a matter of priority, save lives than money.

There were reports of snake bites in the three Northern regions in the not-too-distant past. Due to the unavailability of drugs to tame such an ailment, lives were lost and the whole country was plunged into an uproarious stupor.

The above incident which took lives away is cogent enough to have this deal accentuated so that we no longer experience such an incident going forward.

The argument that we need ambulances and not drones is a flawed one since the facts on the ground do not support such a claim. They create an impression that this administration has no desire to import ambulances to help augment the few ones we have in the country.

What is the fact is that by mid-year 2019, every district will have at least one ambulance to service the health needs of the people.

If the government is in the process of procuring ambulances for the country, why can’t we veer into another sector that will help us in quality health delivery?

In conclusion, human wants are unlimited and at no point can we say that we have been able to satisfy all our wants. The drones are needed to also help in saving lives.
