The incident began when ANIF investigators conducted a surprise search of the 54-year-old economist’s home and office as part of a fraud investigation. They found multiple CDs that revealed his sexual encounters with various married women.
Reports indicate that the videos show interactions with important individuals, such as the wives of his brother and cousin, the president of Equatorial Guinea’s sister, the director general of police, and around 20 ministries in the nation.
One video, discovered in his private office, was allegedly recorded with consent and has since gone viral online, causing a media frenzy.
According to a report by Ahora EG, a local media outlet, Engonga has been involved in an unprecedented sexual scandal in Equatorial Guinea’s history since last October.
The report stated, “The most shocking aspect is that some scenes took place in his office, including moments where he is seen with a woman next to the National Flag. In response to this scandal, the Executive has announced measures to address the damage to the country’s image.
With these new measures, the government aims to set a clear example of the expected behavior for public officials to create a more respectful work environment in Equatorial Guinea’s public and private administration. Erotic videos featuring Baltasar EBANG ENGONGA, also known as “Bello,” have been circulating on social media for days. He is currently the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF) and is currently in prison for alleged corruption.
Baltasar EBANG ENGONGA reportedly filmed these scenes with the women’s consent, which may absolve him of any violation of integrity charges. The videos show him engaging in unprotected sex with several women, including those married to powerful individuals and influential single women in Equatorial Guinea. Some scenes occur in hotel rooms, houses, and even in his office at the Ministry of Finance.”
Regarding the widely shared sex tapes, the country’s Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, emphasized that consensual sexual relations are not illegal unless coercion or violence is involved.
This highlights the importance of victims coming forward about instances of sexual abuse or assault.
Following Baltasar Engonga’s scandal, a new policy has been implemented stating that any government official in Equatorial Guinea involved in a sex scandal will be fired.
After news of Baltasar Engonga’s activities surfaced, it was revealed that one of the married women involved had taken her life due to the shame and fear of facing her husband and children.
