Robbers abandon vehicle during operation; one arrested with weapons

Personnel of the Ghana Police Service are on a hunt for Seven(7) suspected armed robbers who attacked some residents of Konongo in the Ashanti Region and made away with huge sums of money.

The suspects fled from the scene after being hinted that the police were heading to the scene of crime, also abandoned their Green Toyota Hilux Pickup with registration number GT 6511 – 11.

Luck however eluded one of the suspects identified as Amid Tahiru who with the support of community members, was disarmed, arrested and handed over to the police according to MyNewsGh.com’s Ashanti Regional Correspondent.

It is gathered that 40-year-old Amid Tahiru and his accomplices currently on the run attacked some residents of Konongo Low Cost and robbed them of GHc 130, 000.00 after locking one of the victims in a room.

On hearing their cover had been blown, they fled from the scene but the arrested suspect was spotted by community members who devised a strategy and got him arrested in his bid to escape by jumping into a river

Police retrieved among other things Wilson’s foreign pistol loaded with 11 live rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, one Heckler and Koch MP5 rifle also loaded with 37 live rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, two black face masks, two boxes containing 35 live rounds of Luger 9mm ammunition, one hand grading machine, one tape measure and one car number plate with registration GT 700 – 09.

Police have detained the suspect and one Hlordeme George a security guard for further investigation and will soon arraign them before court.
