The eagerly awaited Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala kicked off with a mission to unite communities and promote peace ahead of Ghana’s upcoming elections. The event, being held at the Kawukudi Astroturf Park, aims to use football as a powerful tool to inspire positive change and foster cooperation among the youth.

Awalu Angulu, Youth Leader and President of the Concerned Nima Citizens Foundation, praised the initiative in an interview. “It’s football for unity, football for peace,” he remarked, urging the youth to avoid political violence before, during, and after the general elections. “We want the youth to channel their energy into something positive. This event is not just about football; it’s about securing a peaceful future for all of us.”

Running from September 21 to 23, 2024, with the slogan “One Goal, One Vote, One Ghana,” the soccer gala features 16 teams from various local communities. The event seeks to unite the youth and promote peaceful elections, using the love of football to convey an important message about the need for peace and cooperation during the election season.

The opening match saw 133 FC from Fadama secure a 2-1 victory over Tabarama 11 from Madina, with Wise Man FC also defeating Cowlane FC by the same scoreline. With a grand prize of GHS 10,000 at stake, excitement runs high, but the primary focus remains on fostering peace within the community.

Serki Hakeem Musah, Madina Nkosuohene, Asa Awel Abdel Aziz of Fadama, and the Kajanga Youth Chief are among the notable figures expected to attend. Their presence signifies the importance of community leadership in promoting peace, and the organizers hope their message will resonate with the youth. European scouts will also be on hand, providing local players the chance to impress on a larger stage.

The Youth Peaceful Elections Unity Soccer Gala is more than just a competition, it’s a platform for peace. With the country heading into a critical election period, this event serves as a reminder that unity and peaceful coexistence must always come first.
