Sports minister Mustapha Ussif has reportedly been tasked with presenting a long-term infrastructure plan to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
A report by Nhyira FM indicates that the minister’s plan will detail the renovations needed at the national stadiums.
The report further suggested that the significance cited in the Minister’s plan would include installing hybrid pitches at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Accra Sports Stadium, and the University of Ghana Stadium. Meanwhile, the Tamale Stadium will be upgraded to FIFA standard astroturf.
The infrastructure plan seeks to address Ghana’s lack of a standard stadium to host a CAF Category 3 event. Ghana has four national venues available, but all have been deemed unfit.
Currently, the Black Stars are at risk of playing their remaining home games in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at a neutral venue after CAF disapproved of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which was the only standardized venue remaining.
