Prominent media personality Afia Pokua, known as Vim Lady, has advised Second Lady Samira Bawumia to maintain consistency in her Muslim attire.
She noted that during campaign periods, particularly in the 2012 and 2016 elections, Samira wore a hijab to publicly identify as a Muslim.
However, after the elections, she was often seen without it, raising questions about her true identity.
Vim Lady warned that inconsistency in her attire could impact her husband’s chances in the pending 2024 general elections, as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is using this issue in their campaign.
“Since 2012 and 2016, Samira wears a hijab during every campaign period but abandons it after the elections. You have to be very careful. When that perception sinks into conservative Islam, you may find yourself in trouble. So far, Bawumia is doing well with Muslims.
“If the brand you want to portray is liberal Islam, then it’s fine, but be consistent with your style of dressing because your husband is now a flagbearer. The NDC is targeting her on this, and it is not mere propaganda; it’s the truth,” she said in Twi in a video shared by One Ghana TV on their YouTube channel.
This follows accusations from some members of the NDC that Samira is inconsistent with her Muslim attire, suggesting she might be hiding her Islamic identity and presenting herself more as a Christian.
