Arsenal targeting Argentina midfielder as Thomas Partey replacement

Ezekiel Fernandez has emerged as a potential replacement for Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey at Arsenal.

Reports indicate that the Gunners are keen on signing the 22-year-old Argentine as Partey’s future remains uncertain.

According to Argentine journalist Diego Monroig, Fernandez’s entourage has received information that the Premier League club wants to sign him during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal have previously scouted Fernandez, but they will face competition for his signature, with Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsiah already having submitted a bid.

The likelihood of Partey staying at the Emirates Stadium seemed to increase with Arsenal targeting box-to-box midfielders instead of traditional No. 6s.

However, fresh links to Fernandez suggest a shift in strategy. The 22-year-old starred in a deep midfield role for Argentina against Iraq, scoring in a 3-1 victory, completing 85 out of 92 passes, and making 12 ball recoveries, according to FotMob.

Thomas Partey’s injury issues last season were a significant problem for the club, as he was only available for under 20 games in all competitions.
