Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has provided more details regarding the events that led to his legal action against businessman Baba Sadiq.
This revelation follows Stonebwoy’s absence at the 3Music SallahFest on April 20, 2024, despite being announced as a headline act alongside rival dancehall artiste Shatta Wale.
Baba Sadiq Abdulai Abu, former owner of 3Music, explained that after the event, Stonebwoy’s manager expressed discontent with the addition of Shatta Wale to the concert lineup, which significantly influenced the musician’s decision not to attend.
However, Stonebwoy clarified that the real issue was the unauthorized promotion of the event. He emphasized that the event was a charity show and was not meant to be advertised. The posting of an incorrect flyer by Sadiq led to a breach of trust and Stonebwoy’s subsequent withdrawal, which was communicated to the organizers.
In an interview on Hitz FM on June 13, 2024, Stonebwoy expressed his dismay over a series of tweets by Baba Sadiq, which he claimed were defamatory.
He conveyed his confusion and disappointment with Baba Sadiq’s public demeanor and the absence of a disclaimer to distance himself from the insults directed at Stonebwoy.
Stonebwoy recounted reaching out to Sadiq’s wife, with whom he shares a long-standing relationship, to address the situation.
“He could have issued a disclaimer to detach himself from all the insults. But none of that was done. And when he was asked, you could see the way he was going about it, as if I had done him some evil.
“Even when he was tweeting different things to fans or replying to fans, telling lies about who finances me, claiming he put money directly in my pocket while he was owing me.
“It was on this platform that Bulldog stated he owed me. I had to quiet him. I wondered how he even knew. So, seeing these things, I’m like, no, this is too much.
“I picked up the phone and called my sister. We relate; we vibe from time to time. So I called her because we vibe. I call her sis. But I don’t know what I’ve done to your husband,” he said.
Despite the tension, Stonebwoy maintained that he harboured no ill intentions and had always shown respect to Baba Sadiq, including collaborating on projects like the premiere of his “Gidigba” video on Sadiq’s platform.
The artist highlighted his efforts to handle the situation respectfully, avoiding public disputes on social media.
The situation escalated when Stonebwoy sought legal action for defamation, and in response, Baba Sadiq reported Stonebwoy to the police, alleging threats from him.
“So, my legal team focused on the defamatory one, the one that accused me. I can’t even bring myself to say it. It’s there on Twitter. He wrote it while replying to a certain fan.
“Immediately after he was served, he rushed to the police station to report that I had threatened him. An opinionated guy like him had been threatened a week ago, two weeks ago, but he didn’t mention it in any interviews until after the lawsuit was served,” he said.
Stonebwoy affirmed that he is a law-abiding citizen and will allow the legal process to determine the truth.
