Yul Edochie and first wife’s divorce trial: Actor’s lawyer absent in court
The unfolding story of the high-profile divorce between the renowned Nollywood actor Yul Edochie and his wife May has captured the attention of the public following recent events.
Reports from the Due Process Advocates (DPA) Organization, led by Emeka Ugwuonye, indicate that Yul’s legal representative was absent from the divorce proceedings on May 7, 2024.
The absence of Yul and Judy Austin’s attorney, who had sent a notice of illness to the court, resulted in the postponement of the trial.
The DPA Organization disclosed that although Yul was present in court, the lack of his lawyer meant that no substantial issues could be addressed. Consequently, the hearing was deferred to a new date in June.
An excerpt from the organization’s statement reads: “In today’s court session, Mr. Yul Edochie attended, yet without his attorney, the court was unable to proceed with any significant matters. We share the general concern over the ongoing delays in this case.
“Nevertheless, we maintain our trust in the court’s ability to administer justice in due time. The case encompasses multiple facets, including the parties’ social media conduct, the children’s welfare, marital assets, May’s safety, and the ultimate determination of the marriage’s status.”
“The legal process demands careful and thorough handling, and while we acknowledge the frustration caused by the delays, we assure everyone that May is well and not in any distress. We advise against heeding unverified blog posts, which often lack a factual basis. We appreciate your patience and support.”
It is worth noting that in April 2022, Yul Edochie announced Judy Austin as his second wife following the birth of their child, sparking a series of debates and controversies on social media.
As a result, May Edochie maintained her composure and initiated legal action in August 2023.
During the initial court session, Yul clarified that he had not entered into matrimony with Judy Austin; they were merely professional partners who collaborated on skits.
