No siting of GAS and fuel stations here – KROFROM Residents protest
- Residents of Krofrom in the Manhyia North Constituency of the Ashanti Region have threatened war against siting of gas and fuel station in the community following the gas explosion which claimed two lives early this week
Two persons died while properties estimated at billions of cedis were destroyed after gas exploded at Krofrom, a suburb of the Kumasi Metropolis.
Eleven others are still being treated of serious burn injuries following the Tuesday morning’s explosion.
The residents speaking to MyNewsGh.com after the unfortunate incident warned authorities not to site new fuel or gas station at Krofrom in view of the dangers these outlets expose them to.
According to them, siting of new fuel and gas stations are prohibited at Krofrom saying they will take the law into their own hands if the authorities dare.
A mechanic opposite the gas filling station Rev. Fiifi Amoah said 13 cars were burnt at his shop after the incidents.
He blamed the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the authorities in Kumasi for the disaster.
According to Rev Amoah, residents of Krofrom will protect their rights saying they will descend heavily on authorities to put measures in place to avoid such situation.
“Ghanaians are suffering under incompetent leaders. They will be sitting in their offices without doing anything but at the end of the month, they will receive a huge amount of money as salaries. We will fight for our rights. No more new fuel or gas station at Krofrom”, he said.
Rev Fiifi revealed that just opposite the gas station which exploded on Tuesday, a new fuel station is springing up
