On Sunday, January 1, a fire at the home of Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye in the Ibara neighborhood of Abeokuta, Ogun State, killed the two people.
The Punch reports that the victims were killed in their Abeokuta home after coming back from a New Year’s service, and their son was taken by the people who are thought to have set their house on fire.
The husband, who worked for the Central Bank of Nigeria, and his wife, Bukola, who worked for the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, were burned so badly that they couldn’t be recognized. Their bodies were then packed by police officers and health workers who went to the scene.
A close family member said that the fire is thought to have been set by arsonists who followed the couple home after they left church. The source also said that the suspects took their son and housekeeper hostage.
A person who cared about the couple but didn’t want to be named said that they were still sad about the death of their second son, which happened in July 2022, when they were killed on New Year’s Day.
“The whole Fatinoye family has been killed off. The first son was also taken away, and we don’t know if he is dead or alive. In July 2022, they had just gotten over the death of their second son.
SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, a spokesman for the state police command, said that the incident was true.
“It is true that a couple was killed and set on fire at their home in Abeokuta shortly after returning from a crossover service.
Our agents have taken someone into custody in connection with the event. Since the investigation has already started, we will find out what happened.”
