Six persons including four females and two males died on the spot on Friday afternoon, 07 October, 2022 in a fatal accident that happened at Apirede in the Okere District in the Eastern Region.
The accident which occurred around 1:30pm, was at the same area where three students and a lecturer of the University of Education, Winneba died on September 09, 2022 while on an educational trip to the Afadjato Mountains in the Volta Region.
The 24 passengers aboard the Springer bus with registration number GY 1570-13, were said to be on their way from Koforidua to Aflao for a funeral when the accident occurred.
The driver who was said to be descending the mountainous enclave, was said to be overspending and upon reaching a sharp curve at a section of the road, lost control of the wheels, resulting in the vehicle somersaulting several times in the process.
Narrating the circumstances that led to incident, an eyewitness and a driver who gave his name as TT blamed the driver of the Sprinter but for the accident.
He told GhanaWeb that the driver ignored him when he signalled him to slow down.
“I signaled him (driver) who was over speeding to reduce the speed due to the nature of the road but he ignored me,” he said. “The driver should be blamed, he was over speeding and I told told him to reduce it but he did not even look at me so I was not surprised it happened, the car somersaulted severally.”

The bodies of the deceased together with the injured have been sent to the Yilo Krobo District Hospital for preservation and treatment.
