The President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan has fired an appointee just 24 hours after appointing her and has given absolutely no tangible reason for her action.

Thobias Mwesiga was appointed by the President as the Director-General of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Authority(TPDC) but after barely settling into his seat, a letter came asking him to leave the job.

The soft-spoken head of state has taken a no-nonsense approach in managing government affairs after assuming office following the death of her predecessor John Pombe Magufuli who was equally known to take no prisoners.

Mwesiga, who was appointed as (TPDC) boss on Sunday, April 4, was sacked on Monday, April 5, and replaced by James Mataragio, who was reinstated to the position.

“President Samia Suluhu Hassan has revoked the appointment of the director-general of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), Thobias Mwesiga, who was appointed on April 4, 2021.

Following the decision, President Samia has reinstated James Mataragio to be the TPDC director-general. Mataragio was the DG of TPDC before Mwesiga’s appointment,” a statement by Tanzanian State House stated.

In her letter, President Suluhu did not divulge details why she let go of Mwesiga but asked Mataragio to resume his duties immediately.

According to exclusive reports, Mwesiga was asked by the president to leave the job because she found out later that he had been involved in some corrupt practices after appointing him.

The president, keen to stamp her authority, appointed permanent secretaries and heads of several government institutions, including the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA), in a major reshuffle.
