8 die in accident

A fatal accident that occurred at the outskirts of Tuobodom on the Techiman-Kintampo Highway yesterday afternoon, resulted in the death of eight people.

Police say at about 2:30p.m., a driver, Yaw Offin, together with some people was driving a Mercedes Benz cargo truck, with registration number AS9554-G, loaded with foldable chairs and canopies and heading towards Kintampo.

At the same time, another car, a KIA Sephia taxi with registration number BA 1356-P, being driven by Kwame Mensah from the opposite direction crashed into the Mercedes Benz bus.

The collision resulted in the death of five occupants in the taxi while three people in the Benz bus died.

The Techiman Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service, ASP Andrews Kofi Okoneye, confirmed the incident to the Daily Graphic.

He explained that while six occupants on both vehicles got stuck in the wreckage and died instantly, two others who were rescued and rushed to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital were pronounced dead on arrival.

All eight bodies have been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital mortuary.

The accident followed a similar incident at Nante Zongo, also on the Techiman-Kintampo Highway, earlier in the morning which resulted in the death of a police officer.
