Fifty aspirants have picked nomination forms to contest 11 national executive positions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), as preparations intensify for the opposition party’s upcoming national elections.
The exercise has attracted candidates from various backgrounds within the party, with competition expected to be particularly strong for some of the top positions.
The National Chairperson position has attracted five aspirants. They are Paul Awentame Afoko, John Boadu, Boakye Kyeremanteng Agyarko, Sammy Crabbe and Bernard Antwi Boasiako.
The incumbent National Chairman, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, is not seeking re-election after taking a break from the position in May 2025.
The race for National Vice Chairperson has recorded the highest number of aspirants, with 13 people picking nomination forms. Among them are Henry Nana Boakye, Kojo Fosu Boadu, Mustapha Abdul Hameed, Samuel Pyne and Richard Ahiagba.
Other aspirants for the vice-chairperson position include Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah, Horma Miez, Richard Oti Aboagye, Bright Esselfie Kumi and Nana Akomea.
The General Secretary position has attracted four aspirants, including incumbent Justin Kodua Frimpong, who is seeking a second term. He will face Eugene Boakye Antwi, Sylvester Tetteh and Charles Dwamena.
For the National Treasurer position, four aspirants have picked forms. They are Alfred Kojo Thompson, Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah, Tahiru Issahaku Moomin and Ahmed Ruka Saida.
The National Organiser contest has eight aspirants, including Glover Daniel Nii Kwartei, Salam Mustapha, Kwame Prempeh, Archibald Korletey Gamor, Emmanuel Korsi Bodja, Nana Kwadjo Agyei Yeboah, Daniel Agyenim Boateng and Ali Maiga Halidu.
The National Women’s Organiser race has attracted three candidates: Mavis Hawa Koomson, Perpetual Ekua Lomokie Akwada and Safia Mohammed.
Six aspirants have picked forms to contest the National Youth Organiser position. They are Clement Opoku Gyamfi, Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah, Michael Osei Boateng, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi, Kumi Alfred Ababio and Abanga Fuseini Yakubu.
The National Nasara Organiser position has five aspirants: Issaka Muazo Kunata, Salim Bamba, Razak Tahiru Maiga, Awal Mohammed and Mohammed Ali Suraj.
Meanwhile, the contest for National Communications Director currently has two aspirants, Dennis Edward “Miracles” Aboagye and Evans Kodo.
The developments come after the close of the period for the purchase of nomination forms on August 22, 2026. The next stage involves the filing of completed nomination forms, which is scheduled to run from August 23 to August 29.
Vetting of the aspirants is expected to take place from August 31 to September 3, 2026, followed by the appropriate appeals processes.
The NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee has clarified that merely picking or purchasing a nomination form does not automatically make an individual a candidate. According to the committee, an aspirant becomes a nominee only after properly filing the completed form within the prescribed period and successfully going through the required processes.
The committee has also explained why a specific date for the national election has not yet been announced. It said the decision is intended to allow the filing, vetting and appeals processes to be completed before a final election date is fixed.
This approach, according to the committee, is designed to prevent a situation where an already announced election date would have to be postponed because of an unresolved appeal.
The upcoming contest is expected to determine the party’s national leadership as the NPP prepares for the next phase of its political activities.
