4 things to know about popular Asante Kotoko fan who was killed during Nsoatreman game

Popular Asante Kotoko fan, Nana Pooley, tragically passed away after being stabbed during Kotoko’s defeat against Nsoatreman FC on Sunday, January 3, 2024.

The staunch Kotoko supporter was reportedly stabbed multiple times during the violence that erupted after the game.

The off-field tragedy compounded multiple scuffles, including an earlier on-field brawl, where Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC players exchanged punches during the match.

In a video shared by Hussein Adams, a fan at the stadium, Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was seen punching two Nsoatreman players on the sidelines.

Kotoko captain Justice Blay then joined the altercation, engaging in a scuffle with several Nsoatreman players, while home fans threw objects at the visiting team.

As a result, Camara and Blay were both sent off. Kotoko later received another red card, finishing the game with eight players and ultimately losing 1-0.

Nana Pooley was a newlywed, having married his spouse, Yaa Gifty, in August 2024.

He reportedly has four kids.

3. Pre-match Gon-Gon ritual,

As a tradition, Nana Pooley would beat the gon-gon (a traditional drum) before away games, escorting the team bus to the stadium. Due to this duty, he travelled with the club to every away game.

4. Unofficial Asante Kotoko ambassador

He served as Asante Kotoko’s unofficial media representative on Lawson Sports and frequently appeared on radio tours to promote the club’s games before matchdays.
