The 30-year old electrician who defiled a seven-year-old girl at Agona Nyakrom has been granted bail.

The bail conditions include two sureties.

The accused person, Abdallah Idriss, alias Baba Star Boy, pleaded not guilty to defilement and other charges against him when he appeared before the Swedru Circuit Court.

The suspect, a resident of Nyakrom Zongo, was arrested on Monday, May 11,  a day after theghanareport.com broke the story in which the child’s mother said the family was struggling to raise GH₵200 to pay for a medical report.

The Agona Swedru Divisional Police Commander, DSP Christopher Owusu, told theghanareport.com that the incident happened almost three weeks ago when the girl’s mother, a laundress, went out to wash for one of her customers with her daughter for company.

While out, the girl asked for permission to attend to the call of nature at a nearby refuse dump. However, according to the victim, halfway to the place, he met the suspect, who dragged her into a porch and had sexual intercourse with her.

Some minutes later, the girl returned to her mother crying, but refused to talk when her mother enquired what was wrong with her.

Her mother who thought the girl was involved in a fight with other children decided to let it be.

“The mother inquired what happened to her. She did not say anything because the accused person told her not to disclose it to anybody or else she will die.

“For a girl of seven years, that was scary so she also didn’t tell anyone, until some days later when the mother was bathing her.  and detected some sore in her private parts. With some coercion from her mother, she revealed her ordeal.

The Crime Officer said the victim was able to take her mother to the accused person’s house, where she confronted him but he denied it.

“He was arrested on Monday. Since Agona Nyakrom does not have a DOVVSU unit to pursue the case, he was referred to Agona Swedru Divisional DOVVSU for further investigations.

He said during investigations, the suspect denied ever touching the girl and insisted that the girl with four other children came to his room to watch television but the victim insisted it was not true.

“According to the suspect, he went out and when he returned, he met the little girl with another girl and four of his nephews in his room watching television.  It was there he inquired from the victim where he was coming from but the victim couldn’t give him any tangible answer.

“The suspect claimed the victim and the other girl she was with left together,” DSP Owusu said.

The girl’s mother had told theghanareport.com that the suspect confessed to fingering the girl when she confronted her but DSP Owusu said the suspect in his statement to the police denied ever doing that.

After investigations, the suspect was charged with the offence and put before court on May 13.

With the mother crying for public support to pay for the medical report to facilitate the arrest of the accused, The Ghana Report Foundation took up the medical bill of the defiled seven-year old.
