A three-month-old baby has died following a head-on collision on the Bompata-Wenchi road in the Asante Akyem South Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
Several other passengers were injured in the accident, with four of the victims reportedly in critical condition and receiving treatment at different health facilities.
According to Assembly Member Doris Appiah, the crash involved a Hyundai vehicle travelling from Adomfe to Konongo and a bus travelling from Accra to Kumasi.
Speaking to Adom News, the assembly member said the bus allegedly moved into the opposite lane while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The manoeuvre reportedly resulted in a head-on collision with the oncoming Hyundai.
The impact left several occupants of the two vehicles injured, while the three-month-old baby was reported dead.
Four of the injured passengers were said to be in critical condition and were transferred to different hospitals for further medical attention. Other victims were taken to the Juaso Government Hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
The accident has raised renewed concerns about road safety, particularly the risks associated with overtaking on busy highways.
The Bompata-Wenchi road serves as an important route for motorists travelling between communities within the Ashanti Region. The crash has left residents and road users concerned about the safety of travellers using the route.
