22-year-old jailed seven years for sexually molesting minor

A Circuit Court in Accra on Thursday handed down a seven-year jail term to Prince Aboagye, 22-year-old unemployed for having sex with an eight-year-old girl at Atomic Down, a suburb in Accra.

Aboagye charged with defilement had pleaded guilty.

When the trial Judge, Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku enquired from Aboagye whether he had a girlfriend, he responded positively and explained that he and his girlfriend had broken up.

According to the convict, his former girlfriend was 18 years old.

When asked by the judge if he knew the age of the victim, Aboagye guessed that she could be seven years old.

The judge, therefore, convicted Aboagye on his own plea and sentenced him to seven years.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Agnes Boafo said the complainant resided at Atomic Down, in Accra with the victim who was a class two pupil and Aboagye was a co-tenant.

On August 8, this year at about 1930 hours, the complainant saw the victim and her elder sister in the company of the convict in front of his door.

However, prosecution said the complainant called the elder daughter and sent her on an errand.

Prosecution said the convict took advantage of the absence of the victim’s elder sister and invited her (victim) into his room.

Aboagye locked the door and had sexual intercourse with the victim on a table. After the act, the prosecutor said convict heard the complainant looking for the victim and they both stepped out of the convict’s room.

When questioned, the victim narrated her ordeal to the complainant, the prosecutor said.

A complaint was lodged at the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit at Madina and a Police medical report form was issued to the complainant to seek medical assistance for the victim.

The Convict was nabbed and escorted to the Police station.
