The Ghana Fact Coalition has confirmed reports of 1,200 missing presidential ballot papers in the Yendi constituency.
According to the Coalition, the missing ballots were detected during a routine check at the Electoral Commission’s office.
However, they were reported missing after the distribution process to polling stations.
“Multiple social media users claim that 1,200 presidential ballots were lost in Yendi.
“The Ghana Fact Coalition spoke with a correspondent from the Yendi Constituency, who confirmed that 1,200 presidential ballots were missing. A West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP) observer stationed in Yendi also confirmed via telephone that the missing ballot papers were detected in the EC office before distribution to the polling station.”
The 2024 general elections are ongoing across 276 constituencies in the country, with 18.8 million people expected to vote.
The 2024 election has thirteen presidential candidates, with nine of them representing political parties and four being independent candidates.
According to data published by CODEO, the largest CSO in elections, the 2024 elections will feature 801 parliamentary candidates vying for the 276 seats.
Of the 13 presidential candidates, four are independent, while nine represent political parties. This means that the elections will have nine political parties contesting.
In the parliamentary elections, there are 111 candidates contesting as independents.
