2 dead, several others injured as VIP crashes in wrongful overtaking

Two individuals, including the driver of a Kia Granbird VIP bus with registration number GE 5099-15, have been confirmed dead, and several others injured following a crash caused by wrongful overtaking.

According to the Konongo Police, the VIP bus, originating from Yeji and heading towards Accra with passengers on board, was overtaking vehicles ahead of it upon reaching a section of the road at the outskirts of Nobewam, near the three-lane Nobewam-Kumasi highway. During the process, a vehicle emerged from the opposite direction. To avoid a collision, the driver swerved back into his lane and collided with the rear portion of an empty MAN Diesel trailer truck with registration number GN 6933-11, driven by one Abraham Ayama, with another person on board.

Several passengers, as well as the drivers of both vehicles involved in the accident, sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the Asante Akyem Central Municipal, Nobewam SDA, and Hopecare Specialist Hospitals, respectively, for treatment. However, the unidentified driver and one other individual on board the VIP bus died shortly after arrival.

The bodies have been deposited at Stewards Hospital and Asante Akyem Central Municipal Hospital’s mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy.
