12 critical things Yaw Sarpong’s wife said on Auntie Naa’s show

On Friday, she complained bitterly about the treatment she has received from the family of the gospel musician following his illness.

Adwoa, who has been married to Yaw Sarpong for forty years, said that ever since her husband became ill, his family has denied her access to him. She also accused Tiwaa, the female vocalist who has been with Yaw Sarpong, of taking the musician away from her.

Adwoa mentioned that she lived with Tiwaa for thirteen years at Ashtown, a suburb of Kumasi. However, she claimed that Tiwaa has transitioned from just being a vocalist to becoming Yaw Sarpong’s concubine.

It can be recalled that a couple of months ago, Yaw Sarpong’s manager confirmed that his artist was indeed battling a stroke. Nana Poku Ashis, who spoke exclusively to GhanaWeb, disclosed that the “Oko Yi” hitmaker had been ill for over a year.

“He has been bedridden for over a year now. It started around this time last year. It was really bad when it happened a year ago, but we are hoping that he will regain his strength in the coming months,” Ashis said.

Prior to Yaw Sarpong’s manager’s confirmation of his illness, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwaa had already informed the public. The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, contributed a sum of GH¢100,000 to aid Yaw Sarpong’s medical care.

In her interview with Auntie Naa, Adwoa made the following claims although she mentioned that she has been given access to her husband and is now able to take care of him whenever she visits:

1. Yaw Sarpong fell sick and was admitted to (Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH). One day, he told her that his sisters wanted to send him to a pastor at Sokoban Ampayoo for intervention, so she should just go home and pray for him instead of escorting him to the place.

2. Four days afterwards, she was not at ease and was still pondering over that conversation, wondering why he insisted she shouldn’t accompany him to the place. So, she left home for the place just to see what was going on. When she arrived, Tiwaa was the one taking care of Yaw Sarpong. She got furious because she felt she was the reason Tiwaa became who she is today.

3. The siblings of Yaw Sarpong do not like her [Adwoa]. It’s only one of them, called Poku, who likes her, and she doesn’t know why.

4. One of his sisters, who is abroad, accused her of squandering Yaw Sarpong’s money.

5. Even after finding out that Tiwaa was the one taking care of Yaw Sarpong, none of his family members was ready for an amicable settlement. She was only told she had been divorced; meanwhile, per customary practices, she was still married to him.

6. If Tiwaa were critical and mindful of the repercussions, she [Tiwaa] would have objected to the request or suggestion to take care of Yaw Sarpong, considering how good she [Adwoa] had been to her.

7. Tiwaa always fought Adwoa in her quest to prevent her from being with Yaw Sarpong, claiming the bishop had instructed them not to allow anyone access to Yaw Sarpong.

8. What caused Adwoa so much pain was that one of her children was involved in an accident in Accra. When she visited the child, she was told that Vice President Bawumia had donated money to Yaw Sarpong. Adwoa suggested that part of the money should be used to complete Yaw Sarpong’s housing project at Kokosu. Her suggestion was objected to by the family, who claimed the money was not for such a project. They ended up wasting the money.

9. Yaw Sarpong has a car. Before he took ill, he drove the car during his errands, but since he became ill, his elder brother has seized the car. Yaw Sarpong needs the car to be driven to the hospital for treatment, but it has been seized for no apparent reason.

10. She is not breaking her silence because of the money Dr. Bawumia gave Yaw Sarpong. Instead, she is speaking after a long while because she has exhausted all other avenues.

11. Tiwaa is in an amorous relationship with Yaw Sarpong.

12. Tiwaa once told Yaw Sarpong to marry her. This happened when they lived at Bohyen, a suburb of Kumasi. This case was brought before the chief of Bohyen. Yaw Sarpong said he couldn’t marry a second wife, but Tiwaa insisted. Adwoa witnessed all this back and forth.
