11-year-old school girl dies in Obuasi floods

An Eleven year-old-girl primary school girl died during Wednesday’s evening floods at Obuasi-Brahabebome, a suburb of Obuasi in the Obuasi Municipality of the Ashanti region following torrential rains that hit some parts of Ashanti Region.

The 2-hour rain flooded some areas like Brahabebome, Tutuka, Akaporiso and many others within the Obuasi enclaves

MyNewsGh.com gathered that the deceased was playing with her friends during the rain and slipped into the flooding water but got drowned in the process.

The Assemblyman for Brahabebome Electoral Area, Peter Kwadwo Bosompeh narrating the unfortunate incident to Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo said attempts to retrieve the body of the deceased failed even after elders in the community performed all the necessary rituals.

“I had a call in the evening that a girl has drowned in my electoral area. I rushed there and realized it was true. We couldn’t retrieve the body yesterday because it was late”. He revealed

He added that it took the intervention of community members, Police personnel and NADMO officials to retrieve the deceased body on Thursday morning.

The body has since been deposited at a health facility in the municipality by the police.
