You will never become the vice president – Ghanaian football coach tells NAPO

Ghanaian broadcaster and football coach, Nana Kwaku Agyemang, has stated that the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh commonly known as NAPO, will never touch the seat of the Vice President following derogatory comments about Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

Nana Kwaku Agyemang, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), labelled NAPO’s statement as stupid, adding that the Energy Minister will never become the Vice President.

“So many political stooges are out defending your stupid statement. You’ll never be the Vice President of Ghana; you will only remain the President of your household!”

Napo, during his unveiling as the running mate for the party on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, claimed that the NPP government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had outperformed all previous administrations in Ghana’s history, including that of Kwame Nkrumah.

“It has never happened in the history of Ghana. If President Akufo-Addo retires, I can hit my chest and state that since the nation’s inception in 1957, there has not been a president who has helped the state more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“I am saying that from 1957 to now, whether you pick ‘your’ Kwame Nkrumah… there is nobody who has led Ghana and protected the country or developed Ghana more than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he said.

His claim has sparked criticism and an uproar on social media.

Following a backlash for his comments, he issued an apology on Friday, July 12, 2024.
