‘You should know better’ – Mahama schools Gbawe Traditional Council over Ramsar site sale

In a video shared by SikaOfficial on his X account, on April 4, 2025, President Mahama is seen questioning the man who maintained that he had the title deeds from the Gbawe Traditional Council to back the sale of the land.

“You said these are titled lands and that they are not wetlands?” President Mahama questioned him.

The man oblivious of the fact that the area was marked a Ramsar site, answered in the affirmative, adding that he was a representative of the council that sold the land.

“Yes, these are titled lands owned by Kitec Delta Limited. I’m with the Gbawe Traditional Council and we sold the land to the developer,” he said.

He further explained to the president and his team that they were creating drains to direct the water into a larger gutter at Mallam Junction.

The president and the team of experts seized the moment to educate him on the consequences of his actions as they proceeded to clear any structures on the land.
