Wuogon poll my first major test for 2019 – EC Chair

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Mrs Jean Mensa has said the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election taking place today, Thursday, 31 January 2019, is her first major test for the year.

“Today’s election is the first major test for 2019,” Mrs Mensa told Benjamin Akakpo in an exclusive in-studio interview on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3FM on Thursday.

The by-election is to elect a new Member of Parliament to replace the late Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko.

Contesting the seat are the widow of the late MP, Lydia Seyram Alhassan (NPP), Kwasi Delali Brempong (NDC), William Dowokpor (PPP), and Clement Boadi of the LPG.

Ahead of the by-election, the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) accused the EC of bloating the electoral register by over 1,000 names.

In a statement, the NDC indicated that its attempts to access the proxy list, transfer list, and special voters list have yielded no results.

But the EC has described the allegations as “untrue”.
