Second Lady Samira Bawumia has called on the youth of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) to work hard for the party to stay in power for a reasonable number of years.

She said the party cannot afford to leave power for the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2020 to come back and reverse the progress Ghana has achieved under the leadership of president Nana Akufo-Addo.

She said the NPP-led government in the past two years has worked hard to restore Ghana’s lost glory and has built a better society for Ghanaians.

She reiterated the 41 promises the government says it has delivered in two years including the free SHS, restoration of teachers, nursing and midwifery training allowance among others.

Mrs Bawumia however said for the NPP to do more, the party has to be in power for a reasonable number of years.

She noted that the NPP government under the leadership of Nana Akufo-Addo is going to build a self-confident, prosperous, and job creation economy that is not dependent on aid.

Speaking at the Ashanti regional youth conference of the NPP and inauguration of its working committee in Kumasi on Saturday 30 March 2019, she urged the youth to work hard and be committed to the party.

She indicated that the NPP rewards youth who serve the party with distinction.

The wife of the vice president, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said in the 2016 general elections, she worked in over 115 constituencies not because she wanted to be a Second Lady but she believed in the leadership of then presidential candidate of the party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

She, therefore, encouraged the youth to give off their best for the party, and be assured that the future is bright for all of them under the NPP government.

For his part, Mr Simon Osei-Mensah, the Ashanti Regional Minister said the NPP has targeted winning over 90 per cent votes and all the 47 parliamentary seats in the region.

He said the NDC should not be an alternative party to govern Ghana since in his opinion the NDC have nothing good to offer Ghanaians.
