Wontumi Detention: Dr Bawumia arrives at NIB to secure bail

Several Members of Parliament and senior party officials have also gathered at the NIB premises, alongside a crowd of supporters, amid heightened police security.
Chairman Wontumi was arrested on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
Following his release by the CID, he was immediately taken into custody by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Although EOCO granted him bail of GH¢50 million on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, he has yet to meet the conditions, which include providing two justified sureties.
In response to his continued detention, Minority Members of Parliament marched from Parliament to EOCO headquarters on Thursday, May 29, demanding his immediate release.
The protest caused significant traffic disruptions and prompted a strong police presence.
