Woman arrested for stealing three-year-old girl

Chinwendu Umegbaka has been arrested for stealing of a three-year-old child

The Anambra State command of the Nigeria Police Force has said it arrested a 29-year-old woman, identified as Chinwendu Umegbaka, for alleged stealing of a three-year-old child.

It said the suspect was arrested on Saturday at about 4.30pm, at Nwawulu Street, Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this on Monday in a statement, said the suspect hails from Isinkwo Abaomege Community in the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Ikenga noted that preliminary information reveals that the suspect is a neighbour to the parents of the child, adding that Chinwendu when arrested initially denied knowledge of the whereabouts of the three years old girl.

“But on further interrogation, the suspect made a confessional statement to the police of stealing the child with the intention of selling her.”

The Command’s spokesman further stated that the little child had been recovered and reunited with the parents

He said that further development shall be communicated to the public as investigation was still ongoing.
