A 35-year-old woman, Eunice Brobbey, has been arrested for abandoning her newborn baby on a refuse dump in Bediako, a town in the Bono Region.
A woman, who went to dump refuse at the site, rescued the baby.
The infant was later sent to the palace of the town’s queen-mother after nobody came to claim him or her after a series of announcements at the town’s community information centres.
The queen-mother, together with the assemblyman for the area, reported the matter to the Mim police and subsequently sent the baby to the hospital.
The Mim District Police commander, Superintendent Charles Agyei, confirmed the incident on Asaase Radio and added that they had arrested the woman who committed the crime.
So far, no charges have been levelled against the suspect because she is yet to appear before court.

But the police declined.
The suspect’s grandmother claimed that her granddaughter might have abandoned the baby because she already had seven children and was not willing to cater for another one.
