Why Okomfo Kolege is facing attacks for remarrying two years after his wife’s death

Social media is buzzing with reactions after videos from actor Collins Oteng, popularly known as ‘Okomfo Kolege’s wedding went viral.

The Kumawood actor has remarried in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family, following the death of his wife two years ago.

In the viral visuals from his traditional marriage ceremony which took place on October 20, 2024, Okomfo Kolege was spotted in a kente outfit, while his new wife dazzled in a two-piece kente gown.

The couple posed for the cameras, radiating joy and happiness together.

However, not all netizens are happy about this development as some have criticised the actor for remarrying too soon.

They recall his deep grief following his wife’s passing and view his quick act of remarrying as hypocritical, stating that he has contradicted his previous statements about moving on.

Others have also expressed happiness for him, arguing that two years is sufficient time to heal and start afresh.

I’m so scared to remarry – Okomfo Kolege

In an earlier interview with Delay, Okomfo Kolege shared his fears about moving on.

When asked about the possibility of settling down again, he admitted that he has been grappling with overwhelming anxiety since his wife’s death.

“We are praying about it. The fear is overwhelming. I faced a lot as a young man, and then this happened. I’m a young guy whose wife has passed away. This was supposed to be something we experienced when we were older. This doesn’t feel like the right time,” he said.

In another interview with Kwaku Manu, he emphasised,“I don’t even think about settling down again. I’m gripped with the fear of marriage and childbirth. Even if I am walking in town and come across anyone who looks like my wife, I get startled. I loved my wife very much.”

“As for pregnant women, when I see them, I just keep staring at them. Recently, I was driving and spotted a pregnant woman from afar, she was nowhere close to my car but I waited for her to cross before I drove on.”

Background

Okomfo Kolege’s wife, Millicent Oteng, tragically passed away on November 17, 2022, during childbirth.

In an interview with Kwaku Manu, the actor explained that her death was due to an unexpected surge in blood pressure during labour, which led to a tear in the nerves in her head.
