Why Liverpool beat Man City at Etihad – Slot

Liverpool beat City 2-0 to extend their lead on the Premier League table.

Goals from Mohamed Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai gave Liverpool all three points against Pep Guardiola’s side

Second place Arsenal aided Liverpool’s lead extension after losing 1-0 at home to West Ham on Saturday.

In his post match interview, Slot said his team defended really well against City, adding that some good moments in the counter-attack ensured Liverpool won the game.

“If you play away at the Etihad, if you win there it is always a big win, no matter what the league table looks like,” Slot said.

“If you play away from home against a Pep [Guardiola] team it is almost impossible to have more ball possession than his team has.

“We knew we had to defend a lot and that’s what we did really well and then some good moments in the counter-attack led to us winning the game.”

Liverpool will face Newcastle United on Wednesday at Anfield.
