Why do we need a visa to travel? – A Plus quizzes

Aspiring parliamentary candidate and entertainment pundit, Kwame Asare Obeng, famously known as A Plus, has questioned why an individual needs a visa before they can travel to a different country.

He raised this issue during a discussion on United Showbiz, aired on UTV, when the guests were discussing the influx of Ghanaians seeking a better life in different countries.

The Gomoa Central parliamentary candidate says he is among the few who think a visa shouldn’t be a requirement to enter a foreign land.

He implored various countries to freely open their gates to others, supporting his sentiments with the era of colonization, where the colonial masters freely entered Ghana without a visa and left with the country’s minerals.

“I’m one person who believes that human beings must be able to go wherever they want to go. People must have the freedom to travel wherever they want to go. I don’t understand why we have to go for visas before we can travel. I personally believe that people should have the freedom to travel. When the white man came to Ghana to collect our gold, did he enter the country with a visa?” he said.

Another reason why he thinks a visa shouldn’t be a paramount requirement when traveling is that, to him, countries benefit from one another, citing Nico Williams, the Spanish footballer of Ghanaian descent who scored a few goals at the just-ended Euros 2024.

“Look at Iñaki Williams’ brother, Nico Williams. Didn’t he score goals during the Euro tournament? These foreigners should open their gates to people because they are also benefiting,” he added.
