Man who assaulted woman with baby in viral video remanded

An Accra-based Gender Violence Court has remanded into custody, suspect Nii Baah Afful the man seen in a viral video assaulting a young woman carrying a baby.

This follows his arrest on Friday, March 21, 2025.

He has been remanded two weeks into police custody and is scheduled to reappear on April 9, 2025.

According to the Police, the incident occurred at Korl Gonno on Thursday, March 20, 2025, after a misunderstanding between the 29-year-old fisherman and his girlfriend, 21-year-old Francisca Aryee who live together and have two children.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Francisca attempted to leave for her mother’s house but was assaulted.

The widely circulated video showed Nii Baah repeatedly striking the woman with a stick after she allegedly told him she had found a new partner who was “more handsome and responsible” and no longer wished to be with him.
