West Gonja assembly holds emergency meeting over robbery in the district

The West Gonja District Assembly has held its Second Ordinary Meeting in the district assembly meeting hall.

 

Addressing members present, the DCE Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jibril (Jegede) spoke about security in the West Gonja District and recent happenings which need urgent attention to curb the robbery incidents on the West Gonja District.

 

According to him, it is very sad to lose a life through such incidents and that immediate solutions need to be taken to calm the situation. He said security agencies in the District will handle issues of security with the support of the Assembly.

 The DCE said on Monday 27th August, some people were robbed especially traders who were returning from Buipe market. He said the armed robbery took place at between Janikura and Kojope and five people were injured through gun shots and one of them a 21 year old female student dead.

 

He said there was a ban on on activities of commercial charcoal burning and logging in the entire Gonjaland by the Gonja Traditional Council during its extra ordinary meeting at Yapei in the Central Gonja District.

 

On Agriculture the DCE said 585 farmers made up of 548 males and 27 females registered to cultivate maize for the this 2018 crop season.

 

The DCE said as at last month many farmers reported of their maize fields being infested with the fall army worms and so chemicals were distributed to farmers for the control of the of the worms.

 

Some of the recommendations of the executive committee of the West Gonja District Assembly that were discussed are that management of the West Gonja District Assembly should support the police to deal with all reckless riders motor bikes in Damongo town.

 

The executive committee of the West Gonja District Assembly also recommended that there should be a meeting between Fulani herdsmen, Chiefs, crop farmers, livestock farmers, cattle owners on the effect on cattle destruction on crops should be held.                   Zion Abdul Rauf.                Damongo N/R
