We’re sorry for Salaga violence – Kpembewura begs Akufo-Addo

The Paramount Chief of the Kpembe Traditional Area, Kpembewura Bangbage IV has unreservedly apologized to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Yagbonwura, the people of Gonjaland and Ghana as a whole for the unruly behaviour of the youth that characterized the announcement of Damongo as the Regional Capital of the newly created Savannah Region.

In a statement signed and copied to MyNewsGh.com, he assured the President that they have accepted Damongo as the Regional Capital calling on the security agencies to carry on thorough investigations into the violence and bring the perpetrators to book.

He stressed “the Kpembewura and the people of Kpembe/Salaga wish to applaud His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana for the creation of the Savannah Region out of the Northern Region, a dream previous leaders of Gonjaland thought for about 40 years ago. We wish to assure the President that we accept his decision to designate Damongo the seat of the King of Gonja the Yagbonwura as the Regional Capital of Savannah Region”.

“On this note, I wish to unreservedly apologise to His Excellency the President, the Yagbongwura the entire Gonjaland and the people of Ghana for the unruly behavior put up by the youth of Salaga that resulted in the burning down of the NPP party office. We wish to appeal to the Security Agencies to carry out thorough investigation and bring the perpetrators to book”

It would be recalled that on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 some aggrieved residents of Salaga in the East Gonja District of the newly created Savannah Region went on rampage in protest against the selection of Damongo in the West Gonja district as the new regional Capital.

The action occurred few hours after President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo announced Damongo as the Regional Capital which is set to have angered them.

Residents of the area MyNewsGh.com gathered, were looking forward to being given the Regional Capital and had lobbied only to be denied with the explanation Damongo was well positioned for it.
