We’ll vote against Akufo-Addo if he fails to sack UEW Vice Chancellor – Angry students threaten
The Concerned Students and Alumni of University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have threatened to campaign and vote against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo come 2020 general elections if he fails to sack the current Vice Chancellor , Reverend Father Professor Anthony Afful-Broni they have accused of pressing an automatic destruction button, MyNewsGh.com reports.
“If we don’t get the result that we are looking for then we are ever ready to campaign against the governing New Patriot Party (NPP). We don’t mind whether we are members of NPP or not since we have the school at heart we will go ahead” they threatened.
According to them, NPP won by over 2,000 votes in Winneba campus alone with opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) securing only two votes but insisted that if their demands are not met, the president should count himself out of winning Effutu Constituency come 2020.
“If Akufo-Addo still wants to be the President of this nation especially if he wants to win in the Effutu constituency then he should reconsider the step he has taken because the person that he has brought as VC is not someone who is going to help him to win the election in the Effutu constituency” they observed.
In an inclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com shortly after the submission of petition to the Central Regional Minister and Cape Coast Archbishop Secretariat to intervene in the current impasse at the UEW, they demanded nothing short of the resignation of the current Vice Chancellor.
Later, they hit the principal streets of Cape Coast to stage a peaceful demonstration in protest against the VC of UEW with a call on Nana Addo without delay
The students who were holding placards some of which read “VC must go, Afful Broni why are you buying guns with students fees, Afful Broni is the most vindictive priest, bring back our lecturers, reinstate all sacked staff, Afful Broni nie, hell nie, Afful Broni is destroying UEW among others
The Central Regional Coordinator of Concerned Students and Alumni of UEW, Mr. Kofi Ashia who presented the petition on behalf of the students expressed concerned about the UEW which has been in the news for all the bad reasons and believed something must be done as soon as possible to salvage the University from its current woes.
He stated that the VC was tasked by President Nana Addo to set the University on the path of reconciliation, a simple task which the VC has gloriously failed to achieve.
Mr. Ashia accused Vice Chancellor of pursuing a path of absurd victimization and grandiose self-pontification which has led to the dismissal, termination of appointment of unwarranted transfer of about 30 staff of the University.
According to him, the epitome being the recent dismissal of Dr. Frimpong Duku and Professor Ephraim Avea Nsoh and the termination of appointment of Dr. Emmanuel Osei Sarpong which were premised on highly frivolous charges and sparked protest amongst the agitated student body.
