Weathering Storms, Celebrating Victories, Laying the Foundation for a Prosperous Ghana: Akufo-Addo reflects on legacy

The outgoing President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has affirmed his confidence in leaving behind a Ghana that is safe, secure, and firmly rooted in democratic principles.

In his final State of the Nation Address delivered in Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2024, he expressed gratitude for the trust and support of the Ghanaian people over the past eight years.

Akufo-Addo described his time in office as an immense privilege, emphasising his commitment, energy, and love for Ghana. Reflecting on his tenure, he said:

“It has been the highest privilege of my life to serve as president of this great nation. I have done so with unwavering commitment, boundless energy, and a deep love for Ghana, always guided by the belief that our nation’s best years are ahead. Together, we have weathered storms, celebrated victories, and laid the foundation for a brighter, more prosperous future. I’m filled with pride for what we have accomplished.

“From the transformative policies in education and healthcare, the strides in agriculture, digitalization, energy governance, infrastructure, industry, and trade. These achievements are not mine alone. They also belong to every Ghanaian who has contributed to the collective effort of nation-building,” he explained.

President Akufo-Addo expressed pride in handing over a Ghana that is thriving, secure, and anchored in democratic values.

“I’m happy to hand over a Ghana that is safe, secure, united, and firmly rooted in democratic principles and respect for the rule of law. A nation that continues to shine as a beacon of peace and stability in a troubled Africa and an uncertain world,” he remarked.

The President also pointed to Ghana’s steady economic recovery, effective governance, and opportunities for citizens to contribute meaningfully.

“I leave behind a Ghana that has overcome global challenges, a government that has empowered its people, and institutions that are functioning effectively,” he stated.
