Angry Adeiso youth locks up Ghana Water Company Board Chairman’s office

Angry residents at Adeiso in the Upper West Akyem District have locked up the office of Board Chairman for the Ghana Water Company in the locality.

The residents are accusing Mr Matthias Anagblah of mismanagement. Rainbow Radio’s Prince Collins speaking to some residents said, the youth are alleging that, the board chair and his members have failed to account for their stewardship.

According to them, the board chair also failed to honour an invitation by the traditional ruler in the area after their first meeting with the chief revealed there have been misappropriation of resources. The angry youth have threatened to deal ruthlessly with anyone who will attempt to open the office.

The MCE, Mr Eugene Sackey, reacting to the incident said he received information that, some angry youth were on their way to ransack the offices of the Water Board and so he contacted the police.

He disclosed that the Water Board was to hand over to a new board, however, a communiqué came asking them to hold on with the handing over and rather get a five-member interim board until the new guideline for the selection is drafted.

He said the current board had their term exhausted four years ago but the board have failed to hand over and the board chair boldly told me that, ‘’he will not hand over. He told me to use whatever powers I had to dissolve their board. When you invite them to account for their stewardship, they don’t come.’’

Meanwhile, the assembly will hold an emergency meeting today [Monday] and decide on the way forward, he stated.
