We must listen to ourselves – Rawlings to NDC
Former President Jerry John Rawlings has advised members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) to listen to each other’s counsel.
By doing so, he said, the party will be able to revive itself and win power in the 2020 elections.
Speaking at the Accra Trade Fair Centre on Saturday, 17 November 2018 at the party’s National Delegates’ Congress to elect national executives, Mr Rawlings said: “I would wish for the spirit of the old days… Is it possible to bring it back? I hope so. But that can only happen if we cultivate the habit of listening to ourselves”.
He further stated that: “The dynamism in this room is very infectious and I hope you will be able to maintain the energy level right through into the night”.
Mr Rawlings then went ahead to wish the party well as they select leaders to steer the affairs of the NDC for the next term.
The 9th National Annual Congress of the NDC will see 65 aspirants consisting of 59 males and six females contesting for various national executive positions of the party.
About 15,000 people made up of 9,350 delegates and 5,650 observers, are expected to be at the venue.
The positions to be contested for are: National Chairman, Vice-Chairman, General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, National Organiser, Deputy National Organiser, Communications Officer, Deputy Communications Officer, National Executive Committee Members and the Zongo Caucus Coordinator.
The keenest contest is between Mr Johnson Aseidu Nketia and Mr Koku Anyidoho for the General Secretary position.
