Watch the transformation of Appiatse after being ravaged by dynamite explosions
It has been a little over two years since the Appiatse disaster. On Thursday, January 20, 2022, Appiatse, a mining community in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipal Assembly in the Western Region, was destroyed when a truck carrying explosives to a mining site exploded in the community.
Appiatse was left in ruins, with almost every structure in the community destroyed. About 13 people are reported to have died from the incident, with several others sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
The Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government, through the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, established the Appiatse Support Fund, chaired by Dr. Joyce Aryee, and the Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Committee to raise the necessary funds and ensure the community’s redevelopment.
Two years later, the first phase of Appiatse’s redevelopment has been completed, and the mining community, which was in ruins, now resembles a modern community.
The government shared videos of the ‘new’ Appiatse, showcasing a well-aligned modern community with impressive road networks.
The videos display over 100 family-sized bungalows in a grid layout, with each house having a water tank in front of it.
